UChicago Student Jerry Shu Joins Mella Team: An Exciting Addition!

Updated: Mar 28, 2023

Hi! My name is Jerry Shu, and I’m a second year at the University of Chicago majoring in Economics and Data Science. Outside of the classroom, you can find me at one of UChicago’s weight rooms (the lesser-known one), on the quad if it’s sunny, or in my apartment cheffing up some good eats. I’ve also recently started a Foodstagram, where I post all of the different cuisines I’ve had while exploring downtown Chicago.

I’m originally from outside of Boston, MA, where I was born and raised. I’ve had a variety of pets throughout my life, from backyard chickens to turtles to a dog. Caring for these animals and nurturing them introduced me to the world of pet healthcare. At Mella Pet Care, I hope to improve the lives of pets and pet-parents alike.

I have a passion for business development in startups, which I first discovered this summer at another opportunity. I love the fast-paced environment that early-stage companies provide. As one of my mentors once said, “you wear many hats at a startup.” Whether it’s working with the company CRM, or researching sales opportunities, or wrangling with spreadsheets (one of my favorite tasks), I have enjoyed the multi-dimensional opportunities that Mella has provided me so far, and will continue to provide. I’m particularly excited to apply my knowledge from the classroom to my work at Mella, whether it’s my knowledge of markets or data science abilities, or something else.

I’m excited to be a part of Mella and to grow alongside the startup, and I can’t wait to see where this opportunity takes me next!
